Students at the Mar Vista Farmers' Market
Students enjoy interacting with shoppers as they sell brussel sprouts, chard, kale and other produce they grew from seed in our school garden.
Students run back and forth between the cement and Perry “Happy” Balian’s garden at Mark Twain Middle School. They are taking readings of the ambient temperature in both places for Balian’s lesson on Urban Heat Islands. Balian said students understand the concept that cities can be hotter than the countryside due to a lack of vegetation using his garden experiment.
